He did so for good reasons and was promptly condemned by the EU and the liberal media.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"6\"><p><i>\u201cThe Iran Deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; President Trump, 08 May 2018<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last week, tensions with Iran escalated, as the Tehran regime announced a 60-day deadline until it re-starts its stockpiling of nuclear materials, capable of making atomic bombs.  This has been taking place against a backdrop of Iran\u2019s economy approaching freefall, with soaring inflation and civil unrest.<\/p>\n<h3>The EU got it wrong<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Despite having condemned President Trump for his withdrawal from the agreement made under Barack Obama, the EU now finds itself having to criticise Iran for its actions under this exact same deal.  On Thursday last week, the EU\u2019s Foreign Secretary \u2013 former Italian Communist and unelected EU Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini \u2013 issued a joint statement with the &#8216;G3&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement she said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cWe reject any ultimatums and we will assess Iran\u2019s compliance on the basis of Iran\u2019s performance regarding its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPoA and the NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons).\u201d<\/i>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Unable to admit she had been wrong in doing the original deal with Iran, she went on to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cAt the same time we recall our own firm commitments under the agreement including as regards sanctions-lifting for the benefit of the Iranian people. In this regard, we regret the re-imposition of sanctions by the United States following their withdrawal from the JCPoA.\u201d<\/i>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>This was all so predictable<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Here at Brexit Facts4EU.Org we first reported on the EU\u2019s involvement with Iran before the EU Referendum. Then in April 2016, just two months prior to the big vote, we published an article about an extraordinary 48-hour visit to Tehran by the EU\u2019s Foreign Secretary Mogherini and <b><u>seven<\/u><\/b> other EU Commissioners.<\/p>\n<p>This group of eight extremely powerful but unelected EU Commissioners visited Tehran for the weekend and agreed to all kinds of cooperation with that regime. At the time we highlighted three areas of concern:-<\/p>\n<div class=\"facts4eu-summary-navy\">\n<ol>\n<li>The EU Investment Bank to start lending to Iran\n<\/li>\n<li>The EU to conduct joint nuclear research with Iran\n<\/li>\n<li>The EU to share science and technology knowledge with Iran<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bizarrely this didn\u2019t make the BBC News headlines.<\/p>\n<div class=\"facts4eu-summary-red\" readability=\"15\">\n<h3>Dear President Trump<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Did you know that some EU Commissioners have a \u2018special interest\u2019 in Iran?<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\" readability=\"12\">\n<div class=\"col-md-3\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/facts4eu.org\/static\/media\/mogherini_wef_sml.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"165\"><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-9\" readability=\"19\">\n<p>The EU&#8217;s unelected de facto Foreign Secretary, Federica Mogherini, was a committed communist for eight years until the Italian Communist Party disbanded and was renamed, whereupon Ms Mogherini joined the new organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Mogherini is no fan of the United Kingdom and indicated as early as 2017 that she was looking forward to \u2018getting her hands on the file\u2019 as soon as the UK leaves.  It\u2019s the EU Commission\u2019s de facto Foreign Secretary (the position she currently holds) who is responsible for the EU\u2019s relations with the UK once it is no longer a member.<\/p>\n<p>She studied political science in Italy and France and did her <b>university dissertation on Islam<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The other EU Commissioner who might be of particular interest to President Trump is El\u017cbieta Bie\u0144kowska.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\" readability=\"10.5\">\n<div class=\"col-md-3\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/facts4eu.org\/static\/media\/bienkowska.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\"><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-9\" readability=\"16\">\n<p>Ms Bie\u0144kowska is Polish and has no business experience, but she is bizarrely the Commissioner for the Single Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ms Bie\u0144kowska does have a masters degree in <b>Iranian studies<\/b> from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Brexit Facts4EU.org Summary<\/h3>\n<p>So, the EU\u2019s Vice-President (and de facto Foreign Secretary) did her university dissertation on Islam,<br \/>and the Commissioner for the Single Market and Business did her masters in Iranian studies<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Who decides EU foreign policy?<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Technically the answer to that question is clear.  It\u2019s the EU member states\u2019 foreign ministers when they meet under the auspices of the EU Council who decide foreign policy, based on the views of their own governments. The reality is of course a little different, as with most of what the EU does.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\" readability=\"11.5\">\n<div class=\"col-md-9\" readability=\"18\">\n<p><b>Here\u2019s EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on the subject:-<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not want to say a great deal about foreign policy. We urgently need a common foreign and security policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be fine by me if the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy [Federica Mogherini] were no longer thwarted by the Foreign Ministers of the Member States and <b>I will ensure this does not happen<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; President Juncker, Oct 2014 speech to EU Parliament, setting out objectives for 2014-2020<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-3\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/facts4eu.org\/static\/media\/juncker_29_apr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"149\" height=\"248\"><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In other words, the EU Commission President proposed that Italian former Communist Federica Mogherini, the EU\u2019s \u201cHigh Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy\u201d (and EU Commission Vice President) would be able to overrule the Defence and Foreign Ministers of the EU member states.<\/p>\n<h3>Where is the British Government on all of this?<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Theresa May\u2019s Government continues to back the position of the EU, rather than that of the UK\u2019s staunchest and largest ally, the United States.<\/p>\n<div class=\"heading\" readability=\"51\">\n<h3 class=\"uppercase\">Observations<\/h3>\n<p>In our view the British Government were wrong back in 2015 when the \u2018Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action\u2019 (JCPOA) with Iran was agreed, and they\u2019re wrong now.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly from a Brexit perspective, why does the UK Government slavishly curry favour with the EU\u2019s unelected foreign policy supremo, when our strategic objectives could be said to lie in another direction?<\/p>\n<h3>Deeds not words<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p>Naturally the Iranian question is complex and we have only been able to touch on it in this article.  For us the key aspect is not the ins and outs of the Iranian deal, but that this is yet another example of how the UK\u2019s once-proud Foreign Office has been sucked into EU-ism, and can no longer function effectively in the UK\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p>Only a couple of decades ago, it would have been the British Foreign Secretary who would have been leading the charge.  Now we have a former Communist from Italy, an unelected EU Commissioner, who is making the running.  <\/p>\n<p>And we retain our opinion that she is running in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n<p>The sooner we become a free, independent nation again, the sooner we can stop this continental nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>P.S.  We could have run an article today on Nigel Farage and the BBC, which would have garnered far more readers from social media.  Coincidentally we attacked the BBC very strongly a year ago this week, going beyond what Mr Farage said yesterday on the Marr Show.<\/p>\n<p>We chose instead to bring you information on a topic which relates to the UK\u2019s sovereignty.
