“Here they go again!” says Brexit Party candidate Nikki Page

Here they go again! The siren voices of Major, Heseltine, Blair et al. Telling us we are wrong and we’ve got to go back to the middle ground and stop the popularists from taking over the country.

That would be us they don’t like then – The Brexit Party!

We ARE the ‘middle ground’

So exactly what and where is this middle ground in which we are supposed to reside so happily? It seems to me it’s a mythical place invented by the establishment to keep us in our places. They keep telling us what’s best for us and that any other view is extreme. Their stance is supported by the BBC and much of the media. If we dare to suggest there might be a better way of doing things, we’re labelled racist bigots or right-wing fanatics.

Populism is defined by the dictionary as a way of doing things that is popular with the common person as opposed to the establishment. Well I don’t know about you, but I’ve found more common sense, integrity and fairness on the streets of the West Midlands in the last two weeks of campaigning than I’ve seen anywhere in Parliament and the establishment for many, many years.

We believe in Democracy

Democracy means the people choose who governs them. It also means that if those they elect do not do what they promise, we change them for others whom we think will make a better job of it.

Let us never forget, we pay for them through our hard-earned taxes. We pay for their salaries, perks and for pensions that we could only dream of. We are still paying pensions to the super-wealthy Heseltine, to Major, and to Blair who has made a fortune despite taking us to war on a very dodgy dossier. We pay for Ollie Robbins and Mark Sedwill to lord it over us and disrupt our will at every turn.

Almost three years ago, we were finally allowed to have our say on the EU

In the biggest democratic vote in this country’s history, we voted to Leave.

Forget the percentages, well over a million extra people voted to go rather than stay. The establishment – left and right – were aghast. They had told us to vote the other way! They used our money to leaflet every household in the country telling us to vote Remain. They bombarded us with Project Fear, insisting the country was doomed if we voted Out.

Nevertheless we made our own decision. We knew exactly what we voted for and we thought that if there was a commercial price to pay for the ability to control our money, our laws and our borders, it was worth paying. If they wouldn’t see it, we did see the bigger picture.

We understood the benefits – and the risks

We could see huge trade benefits from being free of the constraints of the EU. We liked the idea of being able to spend our money on our priorities.

We like immigration but we have long felt it was unfair that EU citizens enjoyed priority over our Commonwealth friends – countries that stood by our side in two world wars. This is not a throwback but a continuation of a long journey together. Nothing makes Leavers more angry than being told that we didn’t know what we were voting for, that we’re stupid and racist! We are none of those things.

We have to fight back

The establishment has tried every trick in the book to stop us leaving. The most dangerous one of all being the abysmal Withdrawal Agreement that is a Treaty binding us to the EU with no get-out clause and no representation. As the EU Commissioners said themselves in the BBC4 documentary: colonising us. It is indeed what they’ve always wanted.

Worse, I am told that despite the spin, there is a deal between May and Corbyn which will require a confirmatory vote. In other words, we may be given the choice to stay or be a colony!

Now is the time for every true Brit to say we do not want to be part of this mythical centre ground that is filled with people who despise us. We want our freedom, we want our democracy and we want our country back.

This is no longer about Left or Right

This Thursday we have the chance to send a thumping great message to every Parliamentarian: you vote for anything other than WTO and you’re out at the next General Election.

This is no longer about what’s Left and what’s Right. Labour may not be in power but they have lied to their voters just as blatantly than the Tories. This is about what’s right and what’s wrong.

Whilst I have been out campaigning, I’ve met many disillusioned voters who swear they will never vote again. To these people I would say that I have a good idea how you feel. But please, please understand that is exactly what the entire establishment want! They want to wear us down. They want us to crawl back defeated into our homes, pay our taxes and let them rule us however they like.

We can send a message on Thursday

So on Thursday, no matter what else you do, don’t let them win! Vote for your Democracy. Vote for The Brexit Party and between us, Let’s Change Politics for Good!

– Nikki Page, Brexit Party MEP candidate for the West Midlands, 20 May 2019
